O2Micro Granted Patent for Battery Charger Architecture
March 23, 2006. O2Micro® International Limited (Nasdaq: OIIM; SEHK: 0457), a leading supplier of innovative power
management and security components and systems for the Computer, Consumer, Industrial, and Communications markets, was granted 14 claims under United States patent number 6,989,981 for its Battery Charger architecture.
O2Micro's Battery Charger ICs are based on this patented architecture that includes protection and adjustable adapter current limit circuitry. The protection circuitry reduces or eliminates over-voltage and over-current conditions generated by a charge
controller. Adjustable adapter current limit circuitry generates an offset signal to adjust charging current delivered to the battery.
Dr. Alex Hartular, vice president of O2Micro's Intelligent Power business unit commented "This patented core architecture extends the cycle life of batteries and applies to the family of charger IC solutions for both single- and multiple-battery portable
computer systems."
