O2Micro Receives Significant Battery Pack Protection Patent

July 21, 2015. O2Micro® International Limited (NASDAQ Global Select Market: OIIM), a global leader in the design, development and marketing of high-performance integrated circuits and solutions, was issued a patent for a significant Battery Protection invention.

This invention includes a set of protection circuits capable of protecting a set of battery modules. There were 20 claims issued under U.S. patent number 9,071,049, a continuation of the invention issued August 2013 under United States patent number 8,502,503.

Bill Densham, strategic marketing director, O2Micro, stated "Large battery systems are comprised of interconnected modules. These energy storage systems may experience faults from module disconnects caused by vibration or temperature cycling, induced mechanical connector failure, lead fracture, aging and corrosion. The protection circuits enabled via this invention will monitor, notify and protect the battery system during a fault event."
