O2Micro Receives Patent for BMS Invention

September 24, 2012. O2Micro® International Limited (NASDAQ Global Select Market: OIIM), a global leader in the design, development and marketing of high-performance integrated circuits and solutions, today announced that it was issued 23 claims under United States patent number 8,222,870 for its Battery Management System (BMS) with Adjustable Charging Current invention.

This invention enables multiple battery charging modes based on individual cell status. It controls adapter output via a control signal from a command circuit integrated in the battery pack, saving PC board space and reducing cost.

"This BMS invention ensures that battery charging is terminated when all cells are fully charged, avoiding any over-voltage, over-charge and over-current conditions," said Bill Densham, strategic marketing director at O2Micro.
